« Five people in one minivan exploring part of the Pacific Coast and the western landscapes: eighteen days, more than six thousand kilometers, four states, one ocean, a few canyons and a few deserts, lots of motel rooms and continental breakfasts for the best way to explore one of the most iconic parts of the United States of America. That road transported us through diverse atmospheres from towns to cities, from deserts to forests, from canyons to oceans, the wind playing with our hair, the sun marking our skin, the light writing our memories forever. »
Berlin Berlin
« Since 2014 I have spent one week in Germany every year for work. This past September I was in Berlin. I think it was the fifth of sixth time that I was able to explore the city and I simply can not get tired of it. It feels like there is always something to discover or re-visit. Berlin is a beautiful mix of History, colors and life. There are probably plenty of other places like that, but there is something attaching me to Berlin. »
Roman Holiday
« It was my first time in Rome, also my first time in Italy and I really did not know what to expect. Everybody knows about pasta and pizza, everybody says that the organization in Italy is not the best but going to check that by yourself will make you realize how limited your vision is and will definitely change the image you had about this unique place. Spending a few days in Rome is like traveling through traditions but also through History. You can feel the past and the ancient time in the walls of Rome, from the famous Colosseum to the little paved streets of Trastevere, from the Piazza Navona to the hundreds of churches that you can find in the city… »
Sweet Home Chicago
« A few days walking the streets of Chicago the Windy City in summer 2012. The beautiful pictures of a beautiful city, from Lake Michigan to the cute Historic District, from the skyscrapers to the small Blues clubs… »
NOLA The Big Easy
« An early arrival and late check-in meant our first impressions were formed wandering from brunch to bar, taking in the lush greenery, trees covered with magnolia blossoms and Mardi Gras beads, oysters dripping out onto the sidewalk, and gracious people who greeted us even from the other side of the street. Our home for the week was a half of a double shotgun with each room opening on to the next. The extra high roof allows hot air to rise, with full-length windows and ceiling fans to tick it along… «
Into The Wild
« Being in the Rockies was a comforting and refreshing reminder of the beauty and timelessness of Earth; the cycles of life, water and rock that neither need nor care about humans. I woke up in the middle of one chilly night at Beauty Creek and went outside to look up at one of the largest Dark Sky Preserves in the world. The bright light from thousands of stars in the black night was simply shocking. They will twinkle in my dreams for as long as it takes until I can be in the mountains again. »
Keep Portland Weird
« Forget San Francisco, Los Angeles or Seattle, Portland is definitely a different city of the west coast of the USA: smaller and surrounded by nature in Oregon State. I was there for three days and spent two ends of my afternoons and evenings exploring this unique city. No big towers, no huge skyline, Portland is all about the experience. »
Back to the Sea
« Finally, I had the chance to visit a part of the Canadian Maritimes. My exploration of Canada can not be complete with this major area. During a week we drove to the south of New Brunswick to explore the bay of Fundy where are the highest tides of the world and reach the Prince Edward Island for a few days. We returned by following the Acadian coast, enjoying the fresh air and the beauty of the ocean all along. Arriving to the east coast of Canada felt like going back home. »
My Maine Weekend
« My Maine weekend was just the result of an impulsive need to go back along the ocean. We were just back from two amazing weeks in France, Rome and Naples, where we spent time looking at the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and my desire to return to feeling the fresh salty air and the dancing waves was getting stronger and stronger. »
Where Mozzarella has a taste
« After our time in Rome we headed in direction to the Italian coast two hours south in the famous city of Naples: another place where it is easy to be charmed. I could talk about the beautiful bay, the little boats at sunset, the colorful houses the small streets or the impressive silhouette of the Mount Vesuvius which destructed the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, but I will let the pictures speak for themselves and spend more time about my unexpected discovery: mozzarella has a taste, a real sweet and enjoyable taste! »
Monterey Winter Paradise
« In the middle of the Canadian winter I was sent to the city of Monterey in California. Monterey is mainly known for its big aquarium and its annual jazz festival, but after spending three days there I can say this little Pacific Coast city is certainly one of the best places to be in January. «
Wonderful Copenhagen
The buzzer was still sounding when Lars opened the extra-wide wooden door to his flat. “Welcome to Copenhagen!” Our room was the first door on the left, with extra high 19th century ceilings, pale herringbone wood floors, a bed made up with white linens, striped chairs, at least five lamps, a portrait of the Queen of Europe’s oldest monarchy as a young woman, and a view of the city. “There’s the railway station of course, and you can see the lights of Tivoli just beyond.”
Four Years in the Capital region
Canada, Ottawa-Gatineau: four years this week, already!!! It has been an incredible human adventure and also a photographic adventure for me. To celebrate this anniversary and to express my gratitude to the beautiful region of Ottawa-Gatineau, I made a book which arrived just in time!!! Who wants to discover or re-discover this beautiful region?
The following pages present a selection of my favorite photographs of what has been my new home in Canada. A place with different faces which exhibits a perfect balance between the urban areas and the proximity of nature. This group of photographs focuses on the strengths of the capital region: a first cityscapes, people, landscapes and seasons.
New York Views
« The photographs on the following pages offer a unique view of New York City. The familiar sights are there, but from another angle and with a rare stillness, a silence and emptiness that can be found in the early morning hours, during a rain shower, or looking across the water as night falls. There are moments of everyday life on the streets and in the cafes captured unawares. After the shutter has clicked, something else roars into the frame. Look up, look across the water, look at the City and imagine your part in the picture. »
