In the tones of Chicago

The bias of travelling

Five days in Chicago and all kinds of weather. It started with heavy snow, then sun, fog, heavy clouds and finally rain. The four seasons in a few days. I had some time to explore the streets and different neighborhoods, looking at all sorts of street life and architecture and art. I will definitely remember that evening where I went to eat in a tiny family-owned Polish perogie restaurant. The place was in downtown Chicago, close to the elevated loop train. After starting to enjoy the delicious Eastern European food, my brain started to connect together different sounds and ambiances around me and made me feel somewhere else. I felt like in a movie, it was quite blurry but strong enough so I can still remember today. I was on my chair, and the TV was playing in the background, in English. The light was artificial and low, dark in some corners of the restaurant. While I listened to the metallic and repetitive sounds of the elevated train outside, the rain started again. A man took his food to go and escaped into the street, joining the dance of shadows passing in front of the windows. It was fresh and humid. My brain connected all these signs and mixed it with feelings and images I had from past movies and images I’ve seen. I felt like in Seven or Blade Runner. It was very short but it will last forever. I think this is one of the things I like the most while travelling, when your head mixes the reality with your past visions of what a place could be. You are making your visit unique and ultra personal, shaped by your past life and experiences. It shows that every travel impression is biased and there is nothing you can do about it. It creates memorable moments and pushes me to explore more.

Chiago2019-82

  • Welcome

Hello dear visitor, welcome to my photography world. I am a radio frequency engineer who moved from France to experience a new life in Canada. Living far from my friends and family, traveling for fun and for work I created this blog and website to share a bit of my life with them and everyone else interested in photography. I grew up in front of the Atlantic Ocean in the south of the beautiful region of Brittany. As a passionate photographer, I try to catch the best of each moment from the life in the streets to the changing colors of nature. Photography has almost always been part of my life and helps me to understand and remember the beauty of our world. I hope you’ll enjoy your time spent here.
